A pediatric dental crown is a protective cap that fits over a damaged or decayed baby tooth. It covers the entire tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and function. Crowns are typically used when a cavity is too large to be fixed with a simple filling, or when a tooth has been fractured or worn down. In many cases, a dental crown helps preserve the health of the tooth until it naturally falls out as part of your child’s dental development.
At Stagecoach Children’s Dental Center, we offer a range of crown materials to best suit the needs of your child’s tooth, ensuring both durability and aesthetic appeal.
1. Consultation & Examination
A pediatric dentist examines your child’s teeth and may take X-rays to assess damage. If a crown is necessary, we develop a personalized treatment plan. We take the time to explain the procedure and answer any questions to help your child feel at ease.
2. Tooth Preparation
The damaged portion of the tooth is removed, and the remaining structure is shaped to fit the crown. We use gentle techniques to ensure minimal discomfort during the process.
3. Impression and Customization
We take an impression to ensure a perfect fit. A temporary crown may be placed while the permanent one is being made. This protects the tooth and allows your child to eat and speak normally.
4. Crown Placement
Once ready, the custom crown is securely placed, ensuring a comfortable fit. We check for proper bite alignment to make sure it feels natural for your child.
The process typically takes one or two visits, depending on the case.
